About Me

Prof Chris Creevey is Chair of Computational Biology at the School of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Global Food Security (IGFS), Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB) where he leads the “Sustaining Ecosystems and Biodiversity” theme. He has an internationally renowned profile for expertise in microbial genomics, developing de novo computational strategies for genomic, metagenomic and meta-transcriptomic data from natural microbial communities and their hosts. His research group specialise in the development of open access tools to leverage evolutionary and ecological approaches for understanding microbiomes. His current projects range from understanding microbial drivers of reduced methane emissions from cattle, to antimicrobial resistance and environmental One Health, to developing novel approaches to treat animal disease. He is also co-founder of a spin-out biotechnology company (Amply Discovery Ltd) which applies Machine learning and AI approaches to discover novel therapeutics for the animal and human health sector.
