About Me
Professor Craig Michie has over 30 years experience in research. He received his undergraduate and post graduate from the University of Glasgow in 1983 and 1989 respectively. He has published in excess of 300 technical publications including 14 Book Chapters and over 75 Journals.
Following his PhD he joined the University of Strathclyde researching distributed optical sensors for monitoring physical and chemical parameters. He was made Senior Research Fellow in 1991 and in 1996 joined the Rolls Royce University Technology Centre to lead research within Advanced Sensors for the Electricity Supply Industry. In 1999 he moved to Kamelian Ltd, to undertake a role as senior engineer developing semiconductor based optical amplifier components for the access network.
Following the collapse of the telecommunications sector in early 2000’s he joined Scottish Enterprise National as a Senior Manager in Competitive Business and Clusters. He returned to Strathclyde in 2006 where his career moved into wireless sensor networks and data analytics with a strong focus on agriculture.
Professor Michie was founder member University spinout Silent Herdsman Ltd driving the application of data analytics to identify welfare conditions within dairy cattle. SilentHerdsman was acquired by Afimilk Ltd in 2016 is widely deployed globally. Professor Michie’s current research activity remains within the application of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning within the dairy sector.
